Manufacturers of freezer tunnels, refrigerated truck transport units and refrigerated storage rooms use fans and fan components to circulate cold air throughout the space to maintain the required product temperature. These fans and fan components often require special alloy construction for sanitary cleaning cycles if they are in close proximity with food products. The fans are specially constructed and welded and often cleaned by glass bead blasting. The corrosion-resistant materials selected and the construction methods used are designed for extreme temperature variations, including freezing and thawing cycles. In freezer tunnels and storage rooms, designers must determine if they need to have single or multiple recirculation fans. Multiple fans allow for counter rotation of air currents which some designers feel provides more uniform temperature throughout the space.
